 2010 Elections

Primary Election – Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010

General Election – Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010
The 2010 elections will include various federal, state, county, judicial and
local offices.
Municipal Election In conjunction with the State General Election, Edina will hold its
municipal election Nov. 2, 2010. Edina voters will elect two
Council Members at the November General Election. Terms for these Council
positions are four years beginning Jan. 1, 2011 and ending Dec. 31, 2015.
People interested in running for office in Edina must
file an affidavit of candidacy. The filing period for Edina City Council
opens Aug. 3, 2010, and closes Aug. 17, 2010.
To file for office, an individual must meet the following requirements:

Candidate must be an eligible voter.

Is, or will be on assuming the office, 21 years of age or more.

Maintained residence in the district from which the candidate seeks
election for 30 days before the general election.
Candidates must file an Affidavit of Candidacy and pay
a $5 filing fee with the City Clerk's office at City Hall,4801 W. 50th St., Edina, MN 55424.

Election Campaign Signs
Minnesota State Statutes and the Edina City Code
regulate the placement of campaign signs.
Following is a short summary of some of the regulations:

No signs shall be placed in the right-of-way
without the permission of the property owner.
-
No signs should interfere with regulatory signs and
traffic control devices.

Campaign signs posted in connection with the
elections held at times other than a state general election are subject
to the following:
-
Maximum Size - six square feet.
-
Maximum Number - one sign for each candidate
per frontage.
-
Maximum Duration - 60 days prior to the
election until seven days following the election.
-
No sign shall be located in such a manner as to
impede the view at intersections.
-
No sign shall be attached upon trees, rocks or
power poles.
-
No sign shall be placed on parkland, or other
publicly owned property or bridges/overpasses.
